The 2020 growing season was unique. Late winter weather left snow in the vineyard in February into March, delaying pruning and other vineyard work. This also contributed to greater soil moisture, increased canopy growth, and slightly delayed bud break and bloom.
Summer temperatures were cooler and considerably more even than in recent years, with a few notable heat spikes.
Overall, temperatures across the growing season were slightly above 20-year averages with our GDD level reaching 2,000 for the season.
Minor smoke events during the latter part of Summer encompassed the Vineyard. The Vineyard was tested by IEH Laboratories for smoke tante which came back negative for both free guaiacol and free 4-methylguaiacol.
The 2020 Harvest was completed in two separate cuttings. Our estate GRÜNER VELTLINER was harvested on the 7th of October and the estate AGRIA and ZWEIGELT were brought in on the 16th of October.
The entire 2020 Estate crop will be used to make our first REVEAL Méthode Champenoise Sparkling Rose' set to deliver in 2023.
